I breathe
in the air
out the air
in
slower
out
stiller than dew on morning grass
breathe
I whisper
breathe
my lungs are shaky things on rickety legs.
I breathe in the air
out the air
in the...
and then she comes.
The Sea. With all her tides that pull. And I am under.
breathe
I whisper
breathe
my lungs are swollen things on thrashing legs.
I breathe in the air
out the air
and forget...
Expect the sea water.

What about you? Ever get the feeling that nothing is as stable as we hope? Not even things we thought could never change?
Yes.
ReplyDeleteAnd this poem captured that feeling perfectly.
Shelley
I believe we create the illusion of stability to maintain sanity, but inevitably, reality slaps us in the face. Nothing is truly stable.
ReplyDeleteMy lungs are swollen on thrashing legs...
ReplyDeletePowerful statement. Beautiful piece.
And yes, I get the feeling that nothing is stable, all the time. Even things that I thought were solid as rock.
All the time.
ReplyDeleteI love this. Your writing is so beautiful.
Sometimes, yes. There's always a tide coming in, isn't there ...
ReplyDeleteHi Tabitha..you writing is so beautiful...its like a gorgeous painting. Nowadays, I am feeling a bit like I am caught in a tide.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, Tabitha. I love the sea, and I know this feeling. You captured it beautifully.
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE the look of your site! It's so pretty!
Lovely poem, Tabitha.
ReplyDeleteWe all like to think that things in our life are stable, but I know from experience that life can change in a heart beat.
ReplyDeleteLoved the poem.
That is a truly beautiful poem. It's so true, the old adage; The only thing that's permanent is change. It's what makes everything precious and dear and sacred.
ReplyDeleteYes Tabitha, you're so right, nothing is "unchanging".
ReplyDeleteLove this. You captured this feeling perfectly.
