Going somewhere?

Set your mind. And keep it set.

Before astronomers gazed at the heavens, they believed there was magic to see.
Before a caterpillar can see its wings it dies to the self it knows.
Before humanity soared across the skies, we imagined flight.
Before dusk bursts forth into dawn, we must travel through the night.
Before a dream explodes into new galaxies of light, it is imagined.
Before a raindrop can water the earth it must let go of the cloud... and fall.

Before the book is birthed in print, a writer's mind weaves the words.

In our hands we hold the reality of things unseen.
Our minds create the blueprint of our future.
And we follow what we believe can be.

Going somewhere?

Set your mind. And keep it set.

What about you? Are you going somewhere? And are you prepared to believe your way there first?

  2. so well said, who could possibly disagree???

"Before dusk bursts froth into dawn, we must travel through the night"

"Before a raindrop can water the earth it must let go of the cloud... and fall"

Love these lines... I guess it is the diversions that get us so side tracked, that makes your words that much more wise.

Now, the secret, not getting tunnel vision..oops! :)

  3. Me too, Jan.

Thanks Kay. Tunnel vision...yeah, that is a side effect best avoided.

  4. I love your analogies.

My deal is that I write mostly just because it's what I do best and love doing. Although I would love to publish a book of poems, I am not especially motivated to promote myself. My mother, on the other hand, sees no value in what I do at all unless there IS an end result of publication and monetary gain. Hence, in all likelihood, my pretty much impenetrable disinterest in all that. I used to get published regularly in (very) small literary journals that paid in copies or a very small honorarium, and I got so sick of hearing "did you get paid" that I quit mentioning it, and in time, quit submitting and then even writing. But I've been writing again for 4 years. One step at a time I guess.

  13. A wonderful post. As writers, we often feel we have to corral the characters and lead them to the end we have planned. In reality, we have to let go and let them lead us, with just a bit of direction, of course.

  16. So perfectly written. I loved the line about the raindrop, I am currently convincing myself to fall. Your post helped my let go of the cloud just that little bit more.

  20. Wonderful thoughts...keeping the positive aim in full view is just as important as taming and transforming the negative thought that hold us back.

  24. How lovely. I can't wait to see if there are any comparable musings in your memoir. ;)

You also have a lovely blog here, Tab, and I promise I read it; I'm terrible with the comments.

  27. It makes me think of the difference between going somewhere and getting somewhere. Getting somewhere often requires you to lash your hands to the wheel as the ship gets battered by the storm. You have to be willing to down to the bottom. If necessary.

  28. Thanks Weronika! Nice to have you stop by.

Jason- I could not agree more. And at present I am busy lashing my hands to the wheel of my ship. :)

Mapie- no problems. I believe it too :)

    Kelly- my pleasure
