Let It Go

Good reasons to let it go.
Relate this to whatever you like. Maybe a relationship. Maybe something you thought you wanted/needed and now you question. Maybe (if you are a writer) it is as simple as a book that you need to set free to fly. Maybe it is not something simple. Maybe it is something as huge as your heart or as deep as pain. My life started when I gave up. It just depends what you give up on. Maybe just maybe there is something to be gained in letting go. Something you will never gain if you keep holding on?

1. Holding on is killing you.
2. If you keep holding on you will melt it, squash it or bleed it dry.
3. How will you ever discover what someone else could do with it if you don't let it go?
4. There is something more precious to pick up.
5. The burden of carrying it is more than the value of the goods you hold.
6. Your arms ache.
7. You have it in a head lock against its will.
8. You can't take it where you want to go the way you are holding it right now. And in some cases, maybe you can't take it where you want to go period.
9. It can walk on its own. It needs to walk on its own. Possibly away from you. Possibly towards you.
10. It is time. The season for holding has past.

What about you? What do you need to let go? Do you ever reach that point in your writing?

And on a really personal note: At the edge of broken I met a very big God into whose hands I finally  Let it Go. And His hands both catch and hold. I even threw my life into those hands and He hasn't let me fall yet.

His hands are the safest to fall into.

  2. Sometimes letting go feels like letting go of yourself. Something that can only be done slowly and painfully.

  4. Lovely, Tab. As always :) Letting go is never easy. Working out what you need to let go of, is even harder.

  5. What a great piece you give us here, my dear ATb.
Oh I wish it was that easy... I need to let a few so many things go. First and most important the old wounds others made on me... Thay are living happily while I keep holding it.. High tme to forgive myself and them and pick up new flowers...

  7. A beautiful post. Something that made me think deeply today and realize I need to let go of some things and some people. It's never easy even if what we are letting go is the very thing that hurts us. As Jason said sometimes letting go is relinquishing a part of yourself even if it's something that makes us miserable but in retrospect holding on will kill you, drown your spirit. Letting go can be liberating once we get over the fear of releasing it. God promises to guide us if we just put our burdens on His shoulders...and truly let it go :)

  9. I cannot let things fall into nothing. There is no other place to let them go than into those big hands. They hold me too, and sometimes I feel like I'm falling...but I've never connected with pavement! Nice piece Tabitha :)

  14. Everyday, I work on letting go of perfect. When I allow imperfection, I find success. So glad you fell into the loving arms of a God who nevers lets you go.

  18. found you through a couple mutual blogger friends. and i had to comment on this post. I recently lost my brother sudednly. And long story short (or you can read the post: http://thewindowtomysol.blogspot.com/2009/08/balloons-for-robin.html), I went to his grave with a red balloon, sat there and talked of all my regrets, my wishes, etc....and said that with this balloon i would let go of it all. It was truly cathartic! i'm sure you didn't even think of death when writing this post, but it applies as well!
