Season After Cold

(photo: photobucket.com)

While some are ready to watch their land lay down under a sheet of snow, mine is stretching out under ever warming skies.

Spring reminds me of two things.
One.
There is always a season coming after the cold.
And two.
Dead things may indeed be merely dormant.

Here's to fragility. Life that breaks and then rebuild. Seasons that turn. And Spring. May it always follow winter.

What about you? What does Spring remind you of? If you write, what season are you in?

  1. I love the images your words bring to my mind - shoots pushing up through the soil, the birds coming back to the yard, my kids looking for worms on the driveway (when they were smaller)

It's autumn where I am, but spring is always special to me. Especially here in Canada where winter seems to last so long.

  2. We are just heading into Autumn here in the UK, and I will be escaping to the States in 6 weeks time for some sun. Autumn and winter here in the UK seem far too long for me.

  3. If you are referring to what season my writing is in, I'm not sure. I'll know more when I have hindsight. But we're heading into fall, which I love!

  4. Oh, yes, lovely Spring. I long for it already, even though we are barely entering Autumn...

I'd say I'm in the Summer of my writing career. Splashing in wading pools of small successes; looking forward to the Autumn fires.

    Thanks for asking!

  5. Oh my goodness, girl - I love this!

Not sure if you know, but the title of my debut is officially Wildflowers from Winter. And the reason I like it so much is because of how true it is. The snowier the winter, the more wildflowers you get in the spring. Land that was dormant brims with new life. It's a theme in my book.

I'm so glad God brings us back to life and uses the cold, dormant times to strengthen us (even if we can't understand it at the time)

  6. Spring is my favorite season, new life, new hope. As winter approaches, I will remind myself that spring is arriving down under. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Spring for me represents the blossoming of endless colours, endless abundance that He grants us daily. What is wonderful is I can come here to get a glimpse of someone in spring when nesting winter is just around the corner in my area of the world.

  8. I love spring, it's my favorite season. We are just heading into fall, but that will only last about a month and then winter comes.

  9. Sure wish we were on the brink of spring, rather than autumn--don't get me wrong, I love autumn, but I dread what comes next...

  10. The season in between the four known ones. It has no name, but knows me intimately.

  12. The advent of spring is so hopeful. Happy for you...sad for me.

  13. As Ian Anderson's then-wife wrote in "Aqualung", "the flowers bloom like madness in the spring." Spring reminds me of my bipolar ex, who went reliably cuckoo every April. I am always so glad not to have to deal with that anymore.

    Hey, you asked!

  14. I'm coming out of winter and into spring. Ironically my book coming out was originally called Waiting For Spring and there's that underlying theme of the hero's heart being in winter but eventually blooming, etc.

  15. This is coming into our fall here in the US but its my first in the southwest so things are a little different than those in the northeast. no changing leaves, no cloudy days (read: weeks) in a row. And from all I've heard Spring is similar but we get occassional rain. As in once every 3 weeks kind of occassional. I think I'm really going to like that. A lot.

As far as writing goes...I just wrote my first piece that wasn't for a class in over a month. Its raw and biting and doesn't make apologies. I guess its winter.

  16. Spring always reminds me of hope, of the possibility of the unknown, the future. As for what season I'm in as a writer? I think I've been hibernating and that I'm about to emerge. Not sure yet, but it kind of feels that way.

  17. Beautiful, Tabitha. Spring is rebirth to me. As a writer, I think I'm in the Fall Clean UP season--editing phase!

  18. Where I live, spring is like winter except warmer. Winter is rainy and cool, spring is rainy and not so cool.

    Wishing you a beautiful spring!
