Arcs in the Sky

"The soul would have no rainbows had the eyes no tears."~ author unknown

If the eyes have cried the ribbons of colored light should follow. Should? Perhaps.
I've been thinking about that a lot. About what happens when you've wrung yourself inside out and still you're standing under an empty expressionless sky.
Perhaps it depends where the soul looks.
Lately I've started thinking that unexpected kindness from a woman I barely know, the kiss of my four year old and 9000 words up on a brand new book might all be the colors I've been ignoring.
Arcs in the sky are nice. Everyone sees them.
But perhaps the rainbows of the soul are a more personal, intimate matter?

What about you? What have been your rainbows?

PS- when my rainbow finds its way to the thousands of miles above you'll all be the first know. :)

  1. I like the idea of life being filled with our own rainbows, that we can see whenever we choose ... a long walk, writing the perfect page, a fresh cup of coffee with a friend. Beautiful thoughts.

  2. It is so easy, when we are feeling down, to see grey skies everywhere. Everywhere. The hard part is letting the colours seep back in. Rainbows I often ignore are the love of my family, the joy of writing, the swaying of trees in a breeze (as I'm looking out of my window this very instant). Little beauties that become background, commonplace. I constantly have to remind myself how lucky I am.

  3. The people I love and who love me. The natural beauty that surrounds me. A purposeful, meaningful life. Sharing spiritual gifts. Having stories to tell. I'm surrounded by rainbows, as long as I can open my eyes and see them.

  4. The pain always brings some good if we are willing to muscle through. It always seems to me, to be a matter of what I am focusing on. :O)

  5. My family and friends are my rainbows. Also talking an early morning walk and having two hours of uninterrupted writing time (this hasn't happened in a while)

  6. Those are some sweet words, "9000 words up on a new book." Yay you!

I love your words, they are definitely some of the colors of my rainbows.

  8. Oh, thank you for this. I've been looking for the big, colorful and bright one in the sky; you set me free to notice the baby-kiss ones in my own house!

  9. I miss our only daughter now living in Germany. I still have teary times that sneak up on me but my rainbows are the sweet things - the antics of her dear cat that lives with us now, and the happiness of the special-needs children I teach...and treating myself to a browse in the plant nursery with flowers all the colours of the rainbow. I always come home with something to plant!

  11. Friendships, old and new, colour my sky. And each have their own coloured stripe in the rainbow. I am blessed by friendships. Beautiful post, Tabitha.

  12. Last night's brief thunderstorm was music. My hubby sitting with me on the porch watching the lightening, that was a rainbow.
