Remembrance Day

Hey all,
I was going to sit this post out. Just go missing in action. Or say something trite about my words being lost or all choked up and then mumble my apologies. But then I gave this post a title.
Remembrance Day.
November 11th.
A day when Australia stops and remembers our fallen heroes in wars past and those who fight for our freedoms today.
And I decided that the least I can do is share my Remembering.

For me Remembrance Day is little more personal. But still about fallen heroes.
One year ago today I held my grandfather's hand and watched as he took his last breath.
I don't think the sadness has settled in me yet. The Autumn leaves are still falling on that grief I guess. My memories of him still feel like a Spring's walk. Fresh. Warm. Like the yellow path in the photo above.

That's all.
I just wanted to say I remember.
And my thoughts of him are long and peaceful. It still feels like I could go visiting tomorrow and there he'd be. Sitting and waiting. Ready to take another walk.

There are no other words tonight.
I want to have a shower and crawl into bed.

So forgive the absence on your blogs. I usually stay up so I can catch those of you who post early in the morning there in the US. But I just don't have it in me tonight.
Catch you tomorrow? (which will be your Wednesday evening)

Blessings to all.
I am off to be gentle with me.

Tab:)

  1. Take care Tab, I'm thinking of you. I've been remembering my own little fallen hero today, he's been on my mind all day long. Maybe that's what the day does to you. A different sort of hero he was, but a hero none the less.

    *hugs* to you, my friend.

  4. I'm so glad that your Remembrance Day and our Veterans' Day are on the same day... it feels right for so many people across the world to be honoring the same brave people together at the same time.

  5. Tab. You don't have to believe me. But guess what? My grandfather died on Nov. 11. Our Veterans day here in the US. I was only ten years old, but he was the rock in my fatherless childhood.

I am always sad on this day.

  14. Thank you for your beautiful post (and the beautiful picture). My grandfather, a WWII vet, died last month. This is the first Veteran's Day that he hasn't ridden in the local parade.

  17. Today is Veteran's day in America. I don't know if you'll ever forget your grandpa, though I think the pain will mellow into a gentle sorrow. My grandpa died when I was twelve and it's still hard for me to think about him.

  18. Beautifully said. Bless your grandfather. I lost my dad last December, he served in WWII, stormed the beach at Normandy. We should never forget.

  22. Remembering is difficult, but comforting at the same time. My grandfather passed away at 83 yesterday. I'm very sad at the loss, but I have thought of several very happy memories today that I thought were gone. I hope even more come.
