Genre Wars

Got some shorts that need to be shown to the world? Then head over to Literary Lab and enter their short story contest. The deadline for the Genre Wars is December 1st. I have copied the contest guidelines from Lady Glamis' Blog (hope she doesn't mind :)

So what are you waiting for?

Contest Guidelines
1. E-mail your 1 to 2,000-word short story to LiteraryLab@gmail.com before December 1, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. PST.
Paste the work in the body of the e-mail with breaks between paragraphs (hit return twice). We will be reading all submissions blind, thanks to a kind volunteer who will send us the entries with all names removed. No attachments will be opened.

2. In your e-mail subject line type
GENRE WARS ENTRY. In the body of the email include your name, the title of your work, word count, and which genre category you'd like to compete in: 1. science fiction/fantasy, 2. horror/crime, 3. literary, 4. romance, 5. children's literature/middle grade/young adult, or 6. experimental--yes, you have to pick one.

3. Works must be previously unpublished, and we ask for the rights to post the winning stories online and/or in print in the anthology. Afterwards, you are free to include the story in your own collections or as a reprint in another anthology.

Rejection comp.
I have an on going competition with my blogging mate Wendy from Onwords and Upwards to see which one of us will be first to ten rejections by the end of December. We are celebrating getting our work out there.
Care to join us? So far Wendy is winning, but I intend to stage a come back and whoop her ass :)

  4. Thanks Tamika. I'll keep you posted :)

Jody, I agree. And you have to celebrate your way through the failures to success sometimes!

  6. What a funny competition you and your friend have going there! What a fun way to look at rejections. We all get our fair share of them, that's for sure!!

  7. I have to admit, I've never felt quite so positive about rejection before. Of course, a little "accepted" would be nice too, but hey, I'm competitive so either way's good!

I think I might do some polishing and send off a thing or two to that other competition too.

Hey, does entering a competition and not winning count as a rejection Tab? I say Oh Yes! LOL :D

  8. Hey Tab, how do you count the "rejections" that never respond? That's my life, in spite of SASE's! I love your positive idea!

  9. Very funny contest you've got going on with Wendy! What happens if you get a request for a partial or something. Do you automatically lose?

  10. Well, I'm not sure whether to cheer for you to win or not. Writers definitely have to get their work out there, otherwise they stand no chance, but I'm hoping you win for getting your stories out there and for getting accepted!

  11. What a great contest! I have all my shorts on submission now... and no time to write a new one as I am ***drum roll***** Totally and completely in love with my new novel that I can't talk about yet. OH MY! :) I can't query my other novel until the agent who has it gets back to me... so I can't even join in the rejection club... yet. XO S

  12. Well, with a goal of 100 rejections in 2010, I'm going to have to average close to 10 a month, right? Hey, maybe I should just go for an even 120 rejections in 2010... Now there's a thought!

Best of luck in the GW contest, good lady. I'll be entering two, but in different genres, so we'll see what happens.

  14. Love your rejection contest, great motivator. I'm still scrambling to come up with a short for GW but with the deadline looming, it's starting to look dicey. Good luck!
